Steering Committee meeting No. 6 was held 7-8 June in Kiel, Germany. At the meeting, the Steering Committee decided about the applications received under the 6th Call for Applications, which was open from 14 February to 14 March.

On 9th September 2011 the NMU lead partner Transport Research Institute, Edinburgh Napier University, organises in cooperation with the Royal Meteorological Society the conference on how to reduce the impact of emissions from aviation and shipping. It is now possible to register for an individual meeting with the Secretariat staff and the National Contact Points to discuss project and cluster ideas at the NSRP pre-event to the Annual Conference 2011.

More than 200 participants have registered for the Annual Conference 2011 to date. A preliminary participants list is now available online.

On 11th May the GSA partners and external experts shared experiences regarding practices for noise abatement at airports. This event was hosted by our German partners (Bremen Airport, Wirtschaft und Häfen and ZVBN) in the Bremenhalle, Bremen Airport. Subjects included the present legal framework conditions and neighbourhood policies. The seminar was very succesful and included inspiring presentations from representatives from Frankfurt Airport, Eurocontrol and Frontiers. The following day GSA partners participated in a steering committee meeting and WP workshop. Finally all were treated to a 'behind the scenes' tour of Bremen Airport and an exciting visit to DFS (Air Traffic Control).

Climate change simulations indicate that rainfall will increase in the North Sea region, however with significant seasonal variations. This will lead to higher groundwater levels (up to one meter), higher flux to rivers/coastal waters and a forced outwash of nutrients and pollutants from industrial areas, agriculture and landfills. The former NSR project North Sea Cycle Route is celebrating its 10th anniversary today. On 5 May 2001 the cycle route around the North Sea was inaugurated with an opening ceremony in Hamburg and a bike tour to the Netherlands and Denmark.

The NSRP projects Cradle 2 Cradle Islands, Ballast Water Opportunity, Living North Sea and The Port is Yours will participate in the Europa Kijkdagen open days on 13, 14 and 15 May in the Netherlands.
