Steering Committee meeting No. 8 was held 8-9 May in Mechelen, Belgium. At the meeting, the Steering Committee approved three project applications.

The Joint Annual Conference 2012 of the North Sea Region Programme and the North Sea Commission will take place 18-20 June in Bremerhaven and Bremen, Germany. The title of the event will be "Creating a Climate for Change".

ESPON has launched a Call for Proposals relevant for the Programme. The Secretariat would like to encourage experts in the region to consider submitting an application. Deadline is 13 June.

Screen writing workshop resulted in new partnership

E-harbours interview with Hans Schäfers, from the Hamburg showcase of the e-harbours project: Hans Schäfers is a fellow at engineering company Sumbi, and teaches at both the Hamburg University for Applied Science HAW and the Harbour City University of Hamburg. 

Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - In close cooperation with Scottish Enterprise and the project partners Edinburgh Napier University and Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, North Sea Supply Connect will be organizing a conference about sustainable energy on March 20th and 21st of this year.

A recently published UK report for DEFRA, looking at the benefits of implementing an Ecosystems Services approach has used the SURF Gaywood Valley project as a case study.

Work by Saxion University in the Netherlands on the Sustainable Urban Fringes (SURF) project, was recently identified as best practice by Neth-ER, the Netherlands House for Education and Research.

The first pilot course of the module “Hinterland Management related to port Management” is starting this spring semester. Target group: students of the MSc International Logistics Management and Engineering Programme at NMU partner universities.

The 8th Call for Applications for projects under the North Sea Region Programme is now closed. A total of six applications were submitted.

The North Sea Commission is looking for a new President. There are also other vacant positions with the organisation. The positions are open for politicians from NSC member regions.

Copenhagen is building a new cruise terminal with special focus on energy efficiency and environmental solutions: green roofs that insulate both from cold and heat and absorb much of the rain falling relieving the sewage system, solar energy panels for electricity power, a sustainable indoor climate solution, translucent building elements of polycarbonate, roof-windows minimizing electrical consumption, HEATBLOC surface preventing solar overheating.
