1.029 Nordconnect - Energy
Description
Throughout Europe, numerous research institutions and companies have picked up the challenge that EU and national energy policies offer in the fields of "energy reduction & saving", "alternative energy sources" and "energy storage". Many solutions have after their technical development and pilot implementation phases, reached the point of large scale implementation. In this phase they meet new hurdles and bottlenecks that have to do with e.g. market research and financing the upscaling of production. In the field of "Energy" there is another, more specific point of energy transport and distribution. The necessary infrastructure (gas and electricity grids, networks of filling stations) has been designed for central producers and decentral users and it mostly is in the hands of certain (big, international) players. It becomes more and more evident that if we really want to be successful in introducing new energy techniques and systems a u-turn must take place in our classical approach. In the future frame conditions such as energy infrastructure and energy storage have to be created in a way that makes it possible to keep the pace with the liberalisation of the energy market. Small producers (from households to SMEs) of e.g. electricity and socalled green gas, have to be able in every desired moment to feed energy into the grid. This also means that there is, for example, a need for realisation of “enabling technologies” including ICT solutions and system innovations. |

Central Aim
As each individual region with its own specific situation, faces the general problem of scaling-up energy solutions in a different way, it is proposed to focus on 1. a short joint analysis of the impact of the above mentioned bottlenecks on the regions (with emphasis on SMEs), plus recommendations on best practices 2.individual regional implementation plans, making use of the experiences and best pracices from the project partners. Each plan focusses on a key problem experienced by SMEs in upscaling within the region (e.g green gas quality adjustment to gas grid requirements, enlarging the network of electric car docking stations, developing an intelligent model for future energy bills, promoting use of solar energy in various applications) 3. one subsequent pilot per region in which the implementation plan is tested and adjusted 4. a joint greenbook in which experiences, conclusions and recommendations are documented for both the specific pilots and the large scale implementation challenge in the field of energy policy in general.
Envisaged Output
1. Development and making visible “enabling technologies”, including ICT solutions and system innovations in order to achieve “targeted results” and effectuate energy transition, with the focus on frame conditions related to large scale implementation of new energy solutions and requirements from energy infrastructure
2. exchanging on /comparing best practices on how regional authorities can in the most optimum way support system innovations, remove bottlenecks in the developments and stimualate the market in order to speed up the adoption of new technical solutions and shifting from small-scale to large scale implementation.
3. bringing together knowledge institutes interested in bringing faster knowledge to the mareket
4. pilot/ demonstration projects giving practical dimension to the envisaged exchange of knowledge involving SMEs crucial to the upscaling of new energy innovations.
