International Conference on Local e-Government
How can national governments and the European Union support and promote the development of ICT and e-government in local authorities? This interesting and often overlooked issue affects all EU Member States. Developing good e-government services is within reach for large cities, but a nearly impossible task for small communities.
The conference, which the Flemish government will hold during the Belgian EU Presidency in 2010 will provide answers to this question. This one day conference will be followed by a conference “Lift-off towards Open Government” hosted by the Belgian federal government on 15 and 16 December 2010 in Brussels where the European Union wil present its Digital
During the day, you will hear interesting examples from several European countries exploring the theme of ‘e-government for local authorities’. These presentations and case studies will also be of interest to an international audience. The conference programme has
been developed in association with the European “Smart Cities” project and LOLA, the Linked Organisation of Local Authority ICT Societies.
During the day we will also present and discuss a statement on the European policy on local e-government.
The purpose of the conference is to exchange good practices. A key theme in the presentations will be identifying relevant "shared services" that can be used by smaller municipalities with limited resources. A small panel consisting of representatives from local authorities will conclude the presentations by reviewing how the conference’s presentations and findings may be relevant for their work.
