-E- nergy in Maritime Spatial Plans

Both the production of energy (e.g. large-scale offshore wind farms) as the transportation of energy (infrastructure such as cables and pipelines) require space in the North Sea. Because cables and pipelines often cross national borders and demand regular maintenance, transnational coordination is of an added value. Furthermore, space demand for energy production can cause conflicts with protected areas or other transnational maritime activities, such as shipping.
